Counting to 12

Miya: “Mommy, did you know there are different ways to count to 12?”
Me: “Mmm. Really? Like what?”
Miya: “Well, you can say one, two, three, four, five, [etc], twelve, or you can count two, four, six, [etc], twelve.”
Me: “Oh wow, that’s nicely done love.”
Miya: (sighing cause I interrupted her again…) “And then even you can do it on threes, like three, six, nine, twelve. And in fours if you count four, (checking herself under her breath), eight, twelve!”

Imaginary phone conversations

With a definite purpose in mind, Leia climbs up the kitchen counter, grabs the phone off the hook and when I ask her who she’s calling, says “Mommy!” and then proceeds to say “Hold on. Mmmm. Mmmm. Ja. Baby. Okay, bye”

:D

Keyboard classes

“Mommy!”, she whispers to me as she stands, beautifully bohemian in her floral skirt and t-shirt and wild, wild hair. “I *love* this class”. She smiles and turns back, focusing her fingers on the correct keyboard positions.

Me

“Mommy? Mosquito bit me.”

Only 20 mnths old and she refers to herself as “me”

Pretty awesome development ;-)

Little Keyboard Music Maker

Miya has been bumped up to Keyboard class at music. She enjoyed it tremendously much and has been busy the whole day practicing and telling me about the music and so on. She is even going around making “DO-RE-ME” kind of songs….. Um yes. Okay. Well…. here we go – ROCK ON!

Geniu-osity

Leia is amazing. Really. I am speechless. Just a few things she’s done lately that I don’t think many other 20mnth old babes can do:

Under/over/through – she’s got all that down to the tee – tells us when she wants to go under something, over something or when pushing something through something else. Correct. All the time. Spacial awereness. Tick.

Writing/Drawing – her pencil grip is 100%. Perfect. And she shows exact and complete control over her drawing/writing. She will make the smallest most intricate little scribbles and large, open and free flowing pictures. She loves her “little” writings the best though. Amazing concentration when she does it.

Talking and sequencing. Mimics EVERYTHING, but even better, uses it immediately in the correct sense and from then forward knows what a new word means and can re-use it. Picking up vocab at an astounding rate. Follows multi-part directions, e.g. Please go to the room, find Miya and tell her to come eat her berries…. She’d walk to Miya’s room and I’d hear: “Come Sussa. Eat. Berries. There.” … Also GIVES instructions – “Mommy. Fetch food there. Leia sit here.” (meaning I had to go fetch her food from her little table to come put it by our big table where she was sitting because she wanted to eat with us.). AND THEN without prompting, when I did it: “Thank you, Mommy!”

Around and around. Not sure what she was talking about that went around and around this afternoon, but she had her whole arm and hand waving in circles to illustrate that whatever it was was going around and around while saying “round and round”

And so on and so forth…..

Hell raiser

Um… so Leia threw a bit of a temper tantrum today. No, sorry, that is a gross understatement. She morphed into an angry monstrous thing with hands and feet and teeth and head flying in all directions, all aimed at me and trying to inflict maximum harm.

I blame myself. I thought I’d take them playing FIRST this morning and then get some shopping done afterwards. Okay, seriously – what the HECK was I thinking?! Leia got angry for something small – I honestly forget what it was, I think it might have been a few small things – and then, unlike normally where she’d whine or even give a shrill shout or two and calm down, she got MADDER and MADDER and MADDER.

It was really hectic. I have not in my life seen any of my children get that upset before. Never. Ever.

When I finally made it to the relative safety (from scrutinising looks) of my car, I thought I’d have to rush her to the hospital – it looked like she was having a fit. Literally. She was rocking back and forward as if she was trying to break free from the car straps with brute force, she still kept on swinging at me and her eyes – oh my word…. She even got so intense that she gurgled – not growl – gurgled!

Managed to get home and after administering a few drops of Rescue Remedy, I let her loose to scream and cry and shout and hit a bit. I’ve even got some teeth marks on my shoulder to prove just how violently angry she was.

Finally she let me cradle her and I just held her and stroked her hair and she fell asleep, sniffling and giving a half-hearted kick every now and then.

Sigh of relief.

After about an hour’s nap, she woke up slightly grumpy, but after having a nice lunch, she was a happy, smiling, sweet angel again.

Going to keep the Rescue with me in future – just in case….

It’s like a game in my mouth!

After having a handful of berries (I *SO* love fresh berry season – the girls have berries all day long!), Miya said “You know, this is so delicious, it’s like the berries are having a game in my mouth.”

;-)

Admonished

Today, after Ricky got angry with Leia and told her firmly “No! Do not mess inside.”, Miya piped up and said: “No Daddy. You know if you talk like that to Leia it is how she will talk to her children one day.”

Um. Okay. Reproached.

Music in my ears

Today at Leia’s music class, I told Teacher Cherise that Miya had composed her own song (s) over December and that she played Twinkle Twinkle on her new keyboard by ear. She was so impressed that she asked if we wanted to move Miiya to a keyboard class…. Wow!

Of course, we’ll first go see a class or two and leave it up to Miya to decide which class she wants to be in, but in my mind, I think she’s absolutely ready to move on!

Especially after tonight… she started running through the house making up a silly song and singing “na na na” all the time and inbetween every little verse she made up. It was something about running through the house with her sister following her and how much fun they were having and giggling… and of course, Leia was running after her singing and making noise too! BUT the amazing thing was that in mid song, Miya said “Hey Mom! Actually, I can play this song on my keyboard. Listen it goes “na na na” which is “do re me”…. Um Yeah!
